The web based socio-economic atlas is an ambitious step of the Far Western Development Commission to take a leap into the visualization of socio economic data in through interactive web maps and charts.

The map containing the information about social and economic condition of certain place or area is called socio economic atlas. With the rapid development of technology, smart method of acquiring, visualizing and disseminating the data is being widely practiced. For preparing Socio economic Atlas of Far West region, indicators were calculated at district level and municipality/rural municipality level. The data were grouped thematically under different chapters. The spatial data were collected from Survey Department which were used as base map for 9 districts of Far West Region. The former VDC level data collected from Survey Department were merged to form shapefiles for municipality/rural municipality using ‘Rajpatra’. An interactive web maps showing maps under different socio economic indicators and a hard copy atlas map book are the two major outcomes of the project.
